Lamont Pridmore's Les Walker helps Cockermouth School
Cockermouth School is celebrating getting a new 17-seater minibus after parents helped raise more than £10,000 for it.
They collected the colossal amount of cash - close to half the price of the £24,000 vehicle - through the Cockermouth School Association.
The fundraising campaign for a replacement bus was launched more than four years ago by parent and school governor Les Walker.
The old minibus, which was nearly 17 years old, failed its MOT last winter but Mr Walker had already anticipated that the vehicle would need to be updated and upgraded to accommodate people using wheelchairs.
Mr Walker, managing director at Lamont Pridmore, organised a number of events and activities to raise funds for the replacement bus including a solo sponsored walk along Hadrian's wall.
He said: "We're delighted that the new minibus has arrived bearing the Cockermouth School logo and identifying the support from the Cockermouth School Association.
"I'm very grateful to all parents who contributed by supporting and sponsoring events, to my colleagues at Lamont Pridmore and to local companies for their donations."
Jane Summerscales, fellow parent and chair of the Cockermouth School Association, also took part in the fundraising activities.
She said: "Les has been tremendous in his fundraising efforts and we are grateful to parents for their support for the minibus through the 100 Club; a £12 a year lottery which parents and supporters can join.
"It seems like a small amount, but when supported by many parents, it can result in a big achievement such as the minibus.
"The new vehicle will be a great asset to the school and will be much appreciated by the pupils."
The balance of the cost was provided by the Cockermouth School Fund.
Headteacher Mike Wilde said he was delighted with the new vehicle and was also grateful for the support from parents and local businesses.
The minibus will be used by pupils in the school's Learning Support and Autistic Facility for visits and trips and by the PE department to transport sporting teams to fixtures including hockey cricket, rugby and netball.
Other departments will make use of the vehicle for field trips, theatre visits, expeditions, college commitments and a variety of other visits for curricular and after school activities.
