High Sheriff of Cumbria

It is a great honour for Graham Lamont, our Chief Executive to become High Sheriff of Cumbria on 26th March 2008.

The office of High Sheriff is over 1000 years old and is the oldest continuous secular office under the Crown. Its historic functions include maintenance of the loyalty of subjects to the Crown, the proclamation of the accession of a new Sovereign, attendance at Royal visits and to provide hospitality and look after the well being of High Court Judges.

its more modern functions include supporting and encouraging voluntary and statutory organisations engaged in all aspects of law & order and working with organisations involved with young people.
