Remaining Jamie Oliver restaurants sold, saving 250 jobs

The remaining Jamie Oliver Restaurant Group sites have been sold, saving 250 jobs.

The food travel firm SSP Group has purchased the remaining restaurants, adding to their portfolio which already includes 12 Jamie Oliver branded restaurants.

The company will now operate Jamie’s Italian, Jamie’s Coffee Lounge and Jamie Oliver’s Diner, all of which are situated at Gatwick Airport.

Jamie Oliver’s restaurant group previously had 25 sites around the UK, including 20 Jamie’s Italian restaurants, Fifteen London and one Barbecoa location. However, 22 of those locations closed following the collapse of the company, resulting in around 1,000 people losing their jobs.

Simon Smith, Chief Executive of SSP Group, said: “We’re delighted to be expanding our partnership with Jamie Oliver, especially as we already operate 12 Jamie Oliver units in Austria, Finland, France, the Netherlands, Norway and Spain, and have further units planned in Brazil and Bahrain.

“Jamie’s cafés and restaurants are much-loved by customers all around the world, so we’re very excited to be adding the brand to our UK portfolio and increasing our presence at Gatwick Airport.”

Administrators were called in following the collapse of the Jamie Oliver Restaurant Group, and have now sold the three remaining sites.

Following the news, other restaurant industry operators offered former staff at the company opportunities. Frankie & Benny’s offered a guaranteed phone interview, with Gaucho and M Restaurants offered to fast-track former employees to a final interview.
